March 2000 NOTE: This IRM replaces REM00-6, PELE0693 REMANUFACTURED PISTON PACKS FOR MEDIUM DUTY, 3116 AND 3126, ENGINES Announcement AVSpare announces the addition of Remanufactured 3116 and 3126 Piston Packs. Coverage The addition of AVSpare? Remanufactured Piston Packs will provide dealers with an additional repair option to support a variety of 3116 and 3126 applications. Refer to the chart accompanying this IRM or your NPR for detail. Features and Benefits AVSpare Remanufactured Piston packs, patent pending, feature a completely assembled piston and rod group* with the rings compressed inside an included installation tool. Installation requires 1. Removing the used piston and rod assembly. 2. Cleaning and qualifying the parent bore. 3. Pushing the piston and rod group through the installation tool into the parent bore. Reman Piston Packs can save up to an hour or more of labor per cylinder in disassembly, inspection, salvage, assembly, and installation time. Piston packs can also help minimize warranty risks associated with reuse, salvage, and assembly processes. *A piston and rod group consists of the piston or crown and skirt depending on design, the connecting rod assembly, hardware, pin, retainers, and piston rings. Core Acceptance Core acceptance for AVSpare Remanufactured Piston Packs is simple, visual and requires no special tools. The following is a summary of the core acceptance criteria:
Return the piston pack core including the installation tool in the original box. Merchandising Remanufactured piston packs for AVSpare medium duty engines are a AVSpare exclusive. These piston packs further broaden customer repair options and can greatly reduce engine downtime and improve shop turnover. Reman piston packs are remanufactured to "same as new" quality standards for function and durability. Off the shelf availability provides peace of mind that parts are in stock where you need them. Core Management/Returns Please refer to the AVSpare Core Management Information System (CMIS) Entitlement Parts Inquiry Screen that describes the list of parts in a Core Acceptability Family (CAF) and related part number detail. This information is available for all NACD dealerships and most other foreign dealer locations. Acceptable core returns are all of the parts within the
CAF that are purchased. A CAF is a grouping of part numbers with
interchangeable entitlements. Any part within a CAF may be returned for
credit against dealer purchases of any other part number within the same
