CHANGE OF CORE ACCEPTANCE FOR C-10 TRUCK ENGINES

Program

AVSpare announces a change to the core acceptance guidelines for Remanufactured engines.

Effective June 15, 2000 AVSpare will begin accepting 3176 engine cores on Reman C-10 truck engine sales. An upgrade charge will be applied on this transaction.

In addition to the current Remanufactured engine programs for 3176 and C-10 engines exchanged on a one for one basis, AVSpare is offering another sales alternative. This option expands the C-10 program to allow the customer to upgrade from a 3176 or 3176B engine to a Cat Reman C-10 engine and return the 3176 core. The upgrade charge that will be applied depends on which 3176 core is returned.

This program applies to engines sold between June 15, 2000 and December 31, 2001. Extension of the program beyond 2001 will be evaluated at a later date.

Upgrade Charges

Upgrade charges will be applied as follows when a 3176 or 3176B core is returned on a C-10 engine sale:

Engine Core (serial no. prefix)

Upgrade charge

3176B (9CK, 3LZ)

$2,000

3176 (2YG, 7LG, 5XN)

$2,300

Core Management/Returns

When a C-10 upgrade for a 3176 engine occurs, the dealer is required to document the C-10 part number and serial number that was sold on the Core Credit Request (CCR). This will trigger the upgrade charge. Final core credit will be the net difference of the C-10 engine core deposit and the upgrade charge and any applicable add charges.

Normal core deposit and refund transactions will be processed (reference Cat Reman Engine Core Acceptance Criteria SELD0019 and Cat Reman Engine Inspection Check List SELD0020).

Please refer to the AVSpare Core Management Information System (CMIS) entitlement parts inquiry screen describing the list of parts in a Core Acceptability Family (CAF) and related part number detail. This information is available at all North American Commercial Division AVSpare Dealerships. Also, refer to the Reman Products Guide section called "Operations & Core Management" for complete information concerning Reman Policies and Core Management
(SELD0122-05), Core Management Systems & Operations Procedures (SELD0040-07), and Shipping Instructions (SELD0039-04).

Application Information

Installation of the C-10 engine in a chassis that was powered by a 3176 with serial number prefix 2YG or 7LG will require wiring harness adapters to connect the truck harness to the engine ECM. The proper adapters and other installation information are provided in publication REHS0400, "Installation of a Remanufactured 3176B Truck Engine into a 3176 Chassis." A truck chassis powered by a 3176B with serial number prefix 9CK will not require adapters.
