Use this procedure to check the coolant temperature sensor.
The following procedure has eliminated live work(ELW) by removing the technician from the footprint of the machine while engine is running. Certain ELW procedure may reduce time to complete maintenance tasks and lower maintenance ratio.

If you suspect that the coolant temperature sensor is inaccurate, perform the following procedure:
Note: Ensure that the coolant level is at the correct level before performing this test.
- Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".
- Turn off the engine.
- Allow the engine to cool.
- Relieve the system pressure. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "System Pressure Release" for the detailed procedure to release the system pressure.
- Drain the coolant.

(1) Plug - Remove plug (1) from the regulator housing.
- Assemble the Tooling (T3), (T4), (T5), (T6), (T7), and connect to Tooling (T2).
- Route the Tooling (T2) to cab.
- Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
- Refill the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, Refill Capacities.
- Purge the system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change.
Note: Ensure that the coolant level is at the correct level before performing this test.
- Start Cat ET and multitool T2.
- Start and run the engine to operating temperature.
- Monitor the coolant temperature on Cat ET. Monitor the coolant temperature on the multi tool thermometer.
- Compare the coolant temperature on Cat ET to the coolant temperature on the multi tool thermometer. If the two measurements are not equal, there may be a problem with the sensor. Install a new sensor and verify that the problem is resolved.
