NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.


  1. Drain diesel exhaust fluid into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  2. Remove cover (1).

    Note: Do not attempt to pry or pull the tabs out of the connections on hose assemblies as damage will occur. Push down on the fitting and push the tabs inward before pulling up in order to disconnect hose assemblies.

  3. Disconnect hose assembly (2) and hose (3).

  4. Disconnect hose assembly (4) and hose (5).

  5. Disconnect harness assembly (6).

  6. Remove bolts (7) and bracket (8). Remove bolts (9) and bracket (10). Remove bolts (12) and bracket (13). Remove diesel exhaust fluid tank (11).

  7. Remove bolts (14), plate (15), manifold assembly (16), and the gasket (not shown).

    Note: To remove filter assembly (17) from manifold assembly (16) put outward on tabs (18).

  8. Remove filter assembly (17) from manifold assembly (16).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install diesel exhaust fluid tank (11) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (14) in an alternating sequence to a torque of 5 ± 1 N·m (44 ± 9 lb in). Tighten bolts (14) a second time in an alternating sequence to a torque of 5 ± 1 N·m (44 ± 9 lb in)

    2. Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seals inside hose assembly (2).

    3. Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seals inside hose assembly (4).
