Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position and turn the power disconnect switch to the OFF.

  2. Disconnect the fuel line (not shown) to the ARD manifold from both ends.

  3. Remove bolt (1). Disconnect harness assembly (2).

  4. Remove bolts (3) from manifold.

  7. Write down the polarity and remove harness assembly (6) from the terminal studs. The polarity is designated by “+” and “-” signs around the terminal studs.

  10. Remove backup rings (9), seal (10), and seal (11) from the pump assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Use the pump seal installer that is provided in the pump kit to press in the new pump (12) and seals.

    Note: The outlet of the pump should be at the top center position.

  2. Install new seal (7).

  3. Install harness assembly (6) onto the terminal studs. Install new locknuts (5). Torque locknuts (5) to 1.3 N·m (1 lb ft).

  4. Reinstall manifold (4).

  5. Reinstall bolts (3) and tighten to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).

  6. Install bolt (1). Reconnect harness assembly (2).

  7. Reconnect the fuel line (not shown) to the ARD manifold at both ends.

  8. Turn the fuel supply to the ON position and turn the power disconnect switch to the ON.

  9. Use two people in order to flush the fuel pump and the fuel line into a suitable container for disposal. The fuel pump can be activated by turning on the key or pressing the manual switch. The manual switch, if available, is located on the primary fuel filter base.

  10. After reassembly, prime the engine by turning on the key or pressing the manual switch. The manual switch, if available, is located on the primary fuel filter base. Visually check for leaks around the pump and around the connections on the ARD manifold. If leaks are observed, resolve the leak issue before proceeding further.
